Conditional residents must file a petition to remove conditions within 90 days before the two-year anniversary, providing proof of a bona fide marriage. Failure to renew or remove conditions can result in employment issues, travel problems, or even deportation proceedings.

What Happens When Deportation and Removal Proceedings Are Initiated?

When deportation proceedings begin, ICE issues a Notice to Appear (NTA), outlining the reasons for removal. This notice is served to the individual and filed with the Immigration Court. A hearing is then scheduled, where a judge reviews the allegations. If the judge finds the information accurate, the individual may be ordered removed from the United States.

USCIS said it would pause the review of all pending applications for visas, green cards, citizenship or asylum from immigrants from the additional countries. The memo also outlines plans to re-review applications of immigrants from these countries.
