Attorney Julia Sverdloff has seen first-hand how difficult these struggles are, and she also knows how immigration can positively transform lives. It has motivated her to devote her legal career solely to immigration law and resolving tough legal challenges for clients throughout the greater Chicagoland region, all 50 states, and all across the globe.

As the founder and owner of Sverdloff Law Group, Ms. Sverdloff provides knowledgeable legal counsel and continued support to those seeking immigrant and non-immigrant visas, green cards, and relief from removal proceedings, among other immigration-related issues. An immigrant herself, Ms. Sverdloff has a unique ability to understand the obstacles many families face when seeking a better life in the United States. Ms. Sverdloff has been consistently honored by both her peers and her clients for exceptional professionalism, dedication, and legal know-how. She has been recognized by Illinois Super Lawyer® as a “Rising Star” in immigration every year since 2013, a designation only given to the top 2 ½ percent of attorneys selected.

Her commitment to service and prompt, reliable communication with clients has helped her earn a 10 out of 10 client rating on Avvo, as well as the site's Clients' Choice and Top Contributor awards.

Ms. Sverdloff graduated from St. John's University in 2003 and earned her master's in international relations in 2004 from C.W. Post University. She went on to attend the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law, obtaining her Juris Doctor in 2007. She is licensed to practice in New York, New Jersey, and Illinois. Ms. Sverdloff is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, as well as U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York and the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.

Interesting Facts

Ms. Sverdloff also holds her license as a mediator, and she has facilitated a number of mediations involving a wide range of legal issues. She is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), a professional immigration bar of more than 15,000 attorneys and law professors, among her other professional affiliations. Fluent in Russian, she also helped establish the American Association of Russian Speaking Attorneys.

A leader in her field, Ms. Sverdloff also served as adjunct legal professor at the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law, which is her alma mater, and she has written extensively and conducted numerous lectures and seminars on a variety of legal topics. As an adjunct professor, she handled the Domestic Violence Legal Advocacy Clinic and assisted with U visas, VAWAS, as well other humanitarian immigration benefits. She also supervised students who worked in this clinic in their final semester. This allowed Ms. Sverdloff and the other students help many people in their community and provided assistance to vetted individuals who were in a bad place and didn’t have anywhere else to turn to. Ms. Sverdloff was referenced and featured in an article on InjusticeWatch regarding her client who was seeking a U-Visa after being robbed and stabbed but kept being blocked and denied from obtaining the visa. After continuously fighting, Ms. Sverdloff was able to successfully obtain the U-Visa certification for her client.

Ms. Sverdloff is licensed and admitted in three states - Illinois, New York, and New Jersey. She has a unique perspective on immigration law as someone who has gone through the immigration process herself at 11 years of age. In her free time, Ms. Sverdloff enjoys staying active and spending time with her kids and family. She also enjoys painting, playing ping pong, and walking her two dogs.
