Afghanistan Receives TPS Designation

On March 16, 2022, the Department of Homeland Security announced a new temporary protected status (TPS) designation for Afghanistan. This will allow Afghan nationals currently in the United States, or those without nationality who last resided in Afghanistan, to remain in the United States legally.

According to the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro N. Mayorkas, the change is intended to help Afghan nationals who currently cannot return to their home country safely, including many who assisted the U.S. military with its operations in Afghanistan and were evacuated when U.S. forces left the region.

For more information on the new designation, please refer to the USCIS News Release on TPS for Afghanistan. To learn more about applying for TPS or who may qualify, please contact our office.
